BLACKBERRY STORM

Wednesday 5th November 2008
Read about my own personal (business) experiences regarding the much awaited mobile phone offering from Vodafone.  I am eagerly awaiting delivery of my Blackberry Storm - which appears to be much more than just a telephone..!!

Having pre-ordered the Blackberry Storm - directly via the Vodafone website, I am expecting to take delivery on Tuesday 11th November 2008. The date actually coincides with the product launch date, but - during the on-line order process the information displayed on the screen did say that I should have my Blackberry Storm on the 11th.

I have taken out a two-year contract, which should ensure that I get the best deal for my company. Also, Vodafone do provide a TWO YEAR warranty (guarantee) with the Blackberry Storm handset. Also, I am able to port my Orange telephone number across to the Vodafone network. It's a good job really - as I've had the number for approx 15 years now. All I have to do is get the PAC code from Orange & call Vodafone with it on Monday 10th November.

If you too are awaiting delivery - I can provide you with an Owners Manual (250 pages!!) - if you're interested..?
To download a copy you will need to have adobe reader & click on this link:
BlacBerry Storm Owners Manual

Tuesday 11th November 2008
Well, the day has come - and GONE..!!
As you may have guessed... I have not received my brand-spanking new BlackBerry Storm (more-than-a) mobile phone. I am extremely disappointed to say the least.. sniff, sniff..!!

I even called them yesterday to give the PAC number (to transfer my current mobile number!) & was informed by a guy called "CRAIG" (On-Line Team) that I had been given misleading information with regard to porting my number over. IMHO What a bunch of %*"*>;<**, mis-informing staff members Vodafone have..!! I've been told now that I will have to wait for the handset (did I tell you that it's a BlackBerry Storm? :-) to arrive, then return it & place another order - this time (again) requesting to port my current Orange number to the Vodafone network. I ask you... is it really worth it..?

Having made Vodafone aware of my frustrations, I have received a communication via email from their Channel Marketing Manager (whatever that means?) with an apology for any inconvenience caused. As they have yet to receive the handsets from BlackBerry (RIM) - he is under the impression that stock WILL arrive tomorrow (Wednesday 12th November) at their receiving depot.

Hopefully... FRIDAY will be the day that all pre-orders are despatched - with a special delivery service arranged for Saturday 15th November...?

Wednesday 12th November 2008
...And another email, and another phone call to Vodafone today.
This time, I have managed to (or will) get my number ported onto the BB Storm handset - without having to return it & place a new order.
The guy that I spoke to today was the most helpful person that I have spoken to at Vodafone. As it happens, the chaps name was "Guy" & IMHO he's a credit to the Vodafone team (unlike the "CRAIG" guy!!) So, that said... I am really looking forward to having it in my hand this Saturday (I'm on about the BlackBerry Storm SmartPhone?)

Sunday 16th November 2008
Sorry guys, I've been busy (still am) playing with it (the BB Storm!!) - which actually arrived by courier on Friday morning at 08:27am. Takes a little getting used-to, but as they say... "practice makes perfect"..!! First, second & third impressions are looking good, along with my *expertise of utilising modern technology.
* Definition of EXPERTise.. An EX is a Has-Been & a XPERT (spurt) is a Drip Under Pressure..!!
Sorry, but for the life of me - I can't remember what a Tise (tease) is..?

LATEST...
Wednesday 19th November 2008
Hi Guys... (I know this is of interest to some-of-you out there - as I have recently been into the site statistics whereby visitors have come via Google and Yahoo!!)
Again, I must apologise for the delay in updating this page - so before I go any further... "I'm Sorry..!!"

Right then, now that the "niceties" (if that's a word..?) are out of the way - I shall begin.
What's it like then? - everyone is asking me... "A Kid with a new toy" comes to mind..?

I've been playing (or for the posh readers.. attempting to set individual preferences) on the BlackBerry Storm for the past 5 days. You could say that I'm now "almost" an expert (although I think that I'll change that to "competent" due to the definition of expert (above!)). Before I go any further, I must say that my last mobile-phone (now don't laugh?) was a Nokia 6310i, which has been a fantastic phone over the last hundred-or-so years. So, getting to grips with this new all-singing & dancing bit-of-kit has indeed been an experience.

Enjoyable yes, but at times (most-of-the-time) and to be quite blunt about it - it's done my bloody head-in..!!
However, as I'm almost at ease with it now - I can thoroughly recommend this handset, smartphone, mobile, or whatever else you want to call it. The BlackBerry Storm is a handy piece of-kit. If you have (or have used) a PDA before, it's a similar sort-of set-up (apart from on the Storm you use your finger instead of a stylus).

What I've Done - So Far... (on my own :-)
Opened the box, put the handset on charge & started "reading" the instructions. (see, I don't think that I know it all.. and I'm a bloke!!)
Apart from selecting the ringtones etc...
I've managed to transfer all of my contacts details - from the Nokia 6310i onto the Blackberry Storm.
Set-up individual ringtones for my contacts, as in one for friends, one for family, one for business etc.
Applied different sound notifications for text messages received from individual contacts.
Set-up the email facility, including barring  "spammy" email address'.
Transferred pictures from the hard drive on my desktop to the BlackBerry Storm "media" folder.
Transferred some tracks (music, albums, sounds) from the desktop, again into the media folder.
Received emails which are forwarded from my desktop to the BlackBerry Storm handset.
Sent emails via the handset, all of which have been received within 5mins.

It might be handy at this stage to tell you that I purchased two 8GB SDHC cards to transfer/store my personal bits (photo's, videos, music etc) in the phone.
I've also found a reliable supplier/business (very affordable) for media cards, memory etc. If you want to know more - then send me an email (see Contact Us page).

Haven't Done...
Bluetooth'd?  images to another handset.
Bluetooth'd? tracks to another handset.
Bluetooth'd? contacts to another handset.

Moans & Groans...
Sometimes, when inserting the handset into its protective pouch (supplied) - one or even both of the battery clasps may come undone.
On the odd occasion - the screen fails to go from portrait to landscape (or vice-versa!)

That's about it really, but if anything else comes-to-light - you can rest assured that I will be bitching about it (making my feelings known)..?

So, am I glad that I chose this handset..? At this stage in its (or my) development... YES I am..!!

Continue to watch this space for any further developments...
