Is Redditch (Worcestershire) at Risk from Flooding..?
In a nutshell... No, not really - but it does have some areas that may be susceptible during the stormy weather.
However, the more development that goes on (or up) in Redditch - is sure to have a detrimental effect on our
environmental Risk to Flooding.
Think about it..?
The more ground (land) that we have around us - would normally allow the water to drain away into the natural environment.
But, an even bigger concrete (buildings, roads etc) jungle is bound to have its effect on our environment.
Therefore, we have provided a link (at the bottom of the page) for those who wish to source Flood Risk information
for a specific area (by postcode) in Redditch.
The link will open in a NEW browser window, which will take you directly to the Environment Agency website, whereby
you may search the whole of Great Britain by City, Town, Village or Postal Code for areas that are at Risk of Flooding.
We think that this is a handy facility to have, especially when or if you are considering a property purchase (or rental)
within Great Britain.
Our (the) landscape cannot be taken for granted, as has been proven over the past 12 months.
Worcestershire has experienced significant flooding which has adversely impacted upon the County’s residents & economy.
This flooding was not just fluvial flooding (i.e. rivers bursting their banks) but also resulted in very heavy rainfall and many
incidences of flash flooding.
The 2007 summer flooding was quite exceptional, and overall, approximately 6,000 buildings were affected and approximately
3,500 residential properties were severely flooded. The economic cost to the County was estimated at £6.4 million (per week)
during the height of the flooding.
Climate change has become a major issue, but at least part of the adverse impact of the exceptional summer floods seems to
be the result of human intervention. Worcestershire CC will address flooding as one of its priorities. It will be important to
balance the demand for new development with the need to protect our (the) natural environment.
